A payment gateway and virtual terminal that fit your business.

A payment gateway and virtual terminal let you take cards without a card in hand: on your website, over the phone or by invoice. We connect the gateway you already use, or help you pick one, and keep the processing behind it readable.

When the gateway and the processor don’t talk

A gateway moves card data from your site or keyboard to the processor. Trouble starts when the two are sold as a bundle you can’t see into. Here is what we often find.

What you often find

  • Gateway fees and processing fees blended into one number
  • Being told to rebuild your website to switch processors
  • A virtual terminal nobody on staff was trained to use
  • Recurring billing that stores card numbers in a spreadsheet
  • Separate logins and reports for every location

At PayZoom

  • Gateway and processing costs listed on separate lines
  • We work with the gateway you have when it fits
  • A walkthrough of the virtual terminal for your staff
  • Recurring payments run through the gateway’s secure card storage
  • Reporting set up so you can see every location in one place

How a gateway and virtual terminal work together

Online and keyed payments travel a different path than a swiped or tapped card. Three pieces carry them from your customer to your bank account.

Where you take the payment

Your website checkout, an invoice link, or a virtual terminal your staff types into.

The gateway

Encrypts the card data and passes it securely to the processor. Authorize.net, eProcessing Network, CyberSource or Paya.

PayZoom processing

Authorizes and settles the payment, with our margin shown on its own line.

The PayZoom Statement Review

  1. Send. Email us one recent processing statement.
  2. Read. We line-item every fee and separate what the card networks charge from what your processor keeps.
  3. Recommend. You get a plain-English answer. If you are already paying a fair price, we will tell you.
  4. Switch. If you move to PayZoom, we set up processing to fit your POS, gateway or cart.

Having one tool and one log-in for all of our locations was extremely helpful.

Questions merchants ask us

Straight answers. If yours is not here, call us and a real person will answer it.

What is the difference between a payment gateway and a virtual terminal?

A payment gateway is the secure connection that carries card data from a website or app to the processor. A virtual terminal is a web page, usually part of the gateway, where your staff types in card details for phone, mail or invoice orders. Most businesses that take payments remotely use both.

Which gateways does PayZoom work with?

Our listed gateway partners are Authorize.net, eProcessing Network, CyberSource and Paya. We are platform-agnostic, so we start with what you already run. If your current gateway works for you, we usually keep it and change only the processing behind it. If it doesn’t, we help you compare options.

Can I keep my current website and checkout?

Often, yes. Many carts and websites connect to a gateway rather than to a processor directly. When that is the case, switching processors can be a settings change instead of a rebuild. We check your setup first and tell you plainly what would need to change.

Can I set up recurring billing?

Yes. Gateways can store a customer’s card securely and charge it on a schedule, so you don’t keep card numbers on paper or in files. That matters for memberships, service plans and payment plans. Our recurring billing guide explains the basics and the customer permission you need.

Are keyed-in payments more expensive?

Usually. Card-not-present payments, where the card isn’t physically at the terminal, generally carry higher interchange than tapped or dipped cards, because the fraud risk is higher. That cost is set by the card networks, not by us. We show you exactly how it appears on your statement.

Send us one statement. We’ll tell you exactly what you’re paying.

No cost and no pressure. If your current rate is fair, we’ll say so. We typically reply the same business day.
